PUNCH POWERTRAIN SOLAR TEAM

SHD Composites were asked to help with the supply of materials for the Punch Powertrain Solar Team from the University of Leuven to build a car for the 2015 Solar Challenge race from Adelaide to Darwin across some of the most demanding terrain of the planet. To meet this challenge, the team needed a light, tough and strong material and were particularly interested in making the vehicle as sustainable as possible without compromising on performance. In response, SHD supplied Textreme®, UD carbon prepreg and woven aramid fabrics using the revolutionary DF260 Cashew Nutshell Liquid toughened epoxy resin. The car and team performed superbly, taking a creditable 5th place in the race.
