MTC275 is an epoxy resin system designed to give excellent clarity and surface finish out of autoclave. It is a toughened epoxy resin system designed for component manufacturing that can be supplied on a variety of fabrics and in UD format to meet your cost and manufacturing requirements.

Technical Guidance Information

Storage and Out Life

This material should be kept frozen at -18°C (0°F). It must be kept sealed in a polythene bag which must not be opened until fully thawed to room temperature. If the material is not fully used, then the material must be resealed in the polythene bag to prevent moisture absorption.

Health and Safety

This material contains epoxy resin which can cause allergic reactions with skin contact and must avoid repeated and prolonged skin contact.

Please refer to the product Safety Data Sheet before using this material. The following precautions must be taken when using epoxy resin prepregs:

  • Overalls must be worn

  • Impervious gloves must be worn

  • Curing schedule is meant to be as a guide only and is subject to local conditions

  • To avoid exotherm, particular care must be taken with thick laminates

  • Ramp rates must not exceed 3.0°C (5.4°F)/min during initial cure and 0.3°C (0.5°F)/min during post cure

Is this a suitable prepreg for cosmetic carbon fibre parts?

MTC275 is designed for visual composite parts where appearance matters. It offers excellent resin clarity and a high-quality surface finish, making it well suited to visible carbon fibre components in automotive, motorsport and leisure applications.

Can carbon fibre prepreg be cured without an autoclave?

Yes. MTC275 can be processed out of autoclave using an oven, although SHD recommends taking care with the process. This makes it a useful option where autoclave equipment is not available.

What prepreg is suitable for clear or visible carbon fibre finishes?

MTC275 offers excellent optical clarity, helping the carbon fibre pattern remain clean and visible in finished parts. It is aimed at general-purpose and cosmetic applications where the final appearance of the laminate is important.

Is there a prepreg with a long working life at room temperature?

Yes. MTC275 offers up to 30 days of working life at 20°C (70°F), giving manufacturers plenty of time for lay-up before curing. This can be especially useful for larger or more detailed components.

What prepreg is good for general-purpose automotive composite parts?

MTC275 is a versatile general-purpose system used for visual automotive components. It combines good toughness, excellent surface quality and flexible oven or autoclave processing, making it suitable for a wide range of cosmetic carbon parts.
