LTC400 prepreg is designed to cure at low to medium temperatures whilst giving the potential for high temperature tooling. It has been formulated to give extended outlife without compromising performance. It can be supplied on a variety of fabrics to meet your cost and manufacturing requirements.

Technical Guidance Information

Storage and Out Life

This material should be kept frozen at -18°C (0°F). It must be kept sealed in a polythene bag which must not be opened until fully thawed to room temperature. If the material is not fully used, then the material must be resealed in the polythene bag to prevent moisture absorption.

Health and Safety

This material contains epoxy resin which can cause allergic reactions with skin contact and must avoid repeated and prolonged skin contact.

Please refer to the product Safety Data Sheet before using this material. The following precautions must be taken when using epoxy resin prepregs:

  • Overalls must be worn

  • Impervious gloves must be worn

  • Curing schedule is meant to be as a guide only and is subject to local conditions

  • To avoid exotherm, particular care must be taken with thick laminates

  • Ramp rates must not exceed 1.0°C (2.0°F)/min during initial cure and 0.3°C (0.5°F)/min during post cure

Is this a suitable prepreg for large composite tooling?

LTC400 is designed for large tooling projects where lay-up may take several days. It offers up to 30 days of working life at 20°C (70°F), giving teams much more time before the material needs to be cured.

Can low-temperature prepreg be used for high-temperature tooling?

Yes. LTC400 cures between 65°C and 80°C (149°F to 320°F), then can be post-cured for service temperatures up to around 200°C (392°F). This makes it useful where lower-temperature processing and high final heat resistance are both required.

What prepreg has a long working life at room temperature?

LTC400 offers up to 30 days of working life at 20°C (70°F). This makes it particularly useful for larger or more complex tools that take longer to lay up before curing.

How can I reduce distortion in composite tooling?

Using a prepreg with low shrinkage and low thermal expansion can help. LTC400 is designed to remain stable as temperatures change, helping finished tools keep their shape and accuracy during repeated use.

Is there a tooling prepreg that is easier to handle in warm workshops?

Yes. LTC400 is designed to handle well in warmer working conditions and offers an extended room-temperature working life. This makes it a practical choice for large tooling projects or warmer production environments.
