Careers at SHD

Production Materials Facilitator (Set-Up) – Fabric Lines

Work Times: 8am to 4pm (Monday to Friday).  A degree of flexibility will be needed at peak periods.

Established in 2009 in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, SHD remain committed to providing exceptional levels of service and flexibility coupled with a wealth of experience within the composite industry.   SHD Composite Materials Ltd are at the leading edge of advanced composites technology and manufacture a wide range of thermoset prepregs, which include carbon, glass, aramid, natural and hybrid fabrics whilst also offering a toll impregnation service.

The purpose of this role is to set up every production run for success. You will prepare accurate pre-production paperwork and calculate, prepare, inspect and allocate raw materials for the Fabric Lines, ensuring that only correct, quality-checked fabric is committed to manufacturing, that production runs continuously, that stock is controlled and that full traceability is maintained.

Person Specification

In this role, you will be the vital link between planning and production: organising the pre-production paperwork, calculating material requirements, and preparing and checking every fabric before it is committed to manufacturing. Getting it right at this stage protects product quality, reduces waste and keeps the Fabric Lines running smoothly, so accuracy, attention to detail and confident maths are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work in accordance with company Health and Safety procedures at all times.

  • Work to SHD’s quality standards and procedures, acting as the first quality checkpoint before materials are released to manufacturing

  • Prepare, check and organise all pre-production paperwork (e.g. SOCs works orders, batch records, material requirements, bottom end sheets and labels) so that every job is complete, accurate and ready before it reaches the line

  • Calculate material requirements for each order on the production plan, including fabric lengths, areas, weights, roll quantities and waste allowances, and allocate the correct materials to each line to ensure continuity of production

  • Set up fabrics ready for manufacture, verifying specification, batch number, roll length and width against the order before release

  • Monitor and maintain raw material stock levels, carrying out stock counts, reconciling physical stock with system records and raising shortages with the Production Planner in good time

  • Keep the raw materials area clean, organised and safe to good housekeeping standards

  • Carry out pre-production quality inspections on all fabrics, identifying and recording defects (e.g. damage, contamination, weave distortion or incorrect specification), quarantining non-conforming material and escalating issues to the Quality Manager

  • Record accurate information on all documentation and systems to provide full traceability from receipt of raw material through to finished product

  • Return unused materials to Goods Inwards safely and with the correct documentation

  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested
