Operations Director

Work Times: 8:30am to 4:30pm (Monday to Friday). A degree of flexibility will be needed at peak periods.

In this role, you will act to ensure operational excellence through your passion for customer service, attention to detail, process engagement and accurate, efficient manufacture of SHD prepreg materials. You will further seek to maximise performance of the business through staff mentoring, process and engineering development. You will also be deeply engaged in operational growth planning and execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manufacturing leader, focused on engaging and developing people, applying detail process knowledge and problem-solving skills for composite materials to achieve exceptional results for our customers in the areas of Quality, Lead Time, Delivery and Cost.

  • Focus on operational safety and security and ensure safe working of all staff, visitors and contractors at all times, creating a safe working culture.

  • Apply knowledge of key aspects of composite materials (prepreg) manufacture to ensure consistent product quality to appropriate specifications.

  • Oversight and development of SHD critical processes from purchase order receipt to delivery of product to maximise customer satisfaction and experience.

  • Maximise planning efficiency to meet or exceed customer delivery expectations

  • Work in tandem with local and Group resources to both optimise SHD’s current capabilities and support growth plans

  • Focus on quality and operational metrics to determine key areas for continuous improvement, leading execution of development.

  • Manage manufactured cost effectively

  • Set high operational standards for all production staff for customer quality and product presentation expectations for all materials manufactured.

  • Ensure adherence with SHD quality systems

  • Develop Inventory and Raw Materials Planning with purchasing team

  • Develop cost-down opportunities

  • Manage staff and resources planning to ensure trained capacity for planned growth

  • Work closely with HR on leading staff engagement, training and development

  • Input to development of ERP system

  • Execute and implement company policies, providing guidance and support to managers 

  • Work with Leadership on the implementation of growth plans

  • Work in conjunction with the Leadership Team to develop the annual operational budget and update forecasts based on organizational and business-line strategies

  • Lead by example with enthusiasm and ownership

  • Reporting key information to leadership

  • May be required to perform additional duties, special projects and responsibilities as assigned by management

Skills and Ability

  • Experience of in-line coating technology in a manufacturing environment would be highly beneficial

  • Experience of composite materials manufacturing processes including the key elements of prepreg manufacture would be highly beneficial

  • Minimum 5 years experience in related manufacturing environment required

  • Passion for customer satisfaction

  • Understanding of key attributes of product quality and meeting specifications

  • Awareness of EH&S requirements for compliance and safe working .

  • Ability to understand key process parameters for cause / effect determination and change implementation

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Awareness of AS9100 requirements and application.

  • Ability to identify and lead targeted process improvements in a collaborative manner

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to engage staff in new projects

  • Hands-on MRP knowledge desirable

  • Strong communicator with effective interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across teams

  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills

  • Ability to prioritise tasks and work under pressure

  • Effective team participant

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)

  • Ability to engage with other IT and ERP systems.

  • Familiarity with legislation in the areas of employment, equality and diversity and data protection.

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently 

  • Flexibility and adaptability changing workloads

  • Ability to travel to Group locations as required

  • Computer skills, especially Microsoft products.
