The Electrical Engineer will operate within SHD’s engineering team, driving the build and commissioning of complex industrial machinery. This position combines advanced electrical engineering knowledge with strong mechanical understanding and hands‑on build capability. You will play a key role in shaping engineering standards, leading problem‑solving activities, and supporting technical excellence across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Project Input
Provide technical guidance on electrical system design, controls architecture, and system integration.
Act as a subject-matter expert for drives, motors, automation hardware, and industrial control systems.
Electrical System Design & Integration
Specify, design, and integrate electrical and control systems for bespoke machinery.
Define wiring standards, cable routing strategies, safety-system architecture, and automation interfaces.
Ensure compliance with relevant electrical and safety standards.
Liaise with software/controls engineers regarding PLC, HMI, and automation requirements.
Travel to the other global SHD sites to install, commission and upgrade machinery.
Machine Build, Testing & Commissioning
Lead electrical build activities, ensuring high-quality and timely completion.
Oversee factory final install, electrical safety testing, machine proving, and site commissioning.
Provide advanced troubleshooting support for electrical and electromechanical faults.
Travel to other sites when required to support installation, commissioning, or issue resolution.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
Identify opportunities to improve machine reliability, efficiency, and manufacturability.
Act as a point of contact for complex engineering issues.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
Work closely with mechanical engineers, project managers, and production teams.
Ensure engineering deliverables align with project objectives and manufacturing capability.
Skills & Experience Required
Advanced electrical engineering qualification (Level 3 or equivalent).
18th edition (preferable)
Extensive experience in industrial machinery, automation systems, or electromechanical equipment. (5 years minimum)
Strong background in electrical panel build, controls integration, and machine wiring.
Knowledge of drives, motors, sensors, PLC‑connected devices.
Mechanical assembly skills and understanding of rotating equipment, pneumatics, frames, and motion systems. (preferable)
Proven ability to diagnose complex electrical issues.
Experience leading electrical tasks.
Experience with CAD (electrical or mechanical) advantageous.
Willingness to travel to other sites.
