Application Engineer

Established in 2009 in Sleaford Lincolnshire SHD remain committed to providing exceptional levels of service and flexibility coupled with a wealth of experience within the composite industry.   SHD Composite Materials Ltd are the leading edge of advance composites technology and manufacture a wide range of thermoset prepregs, which include carbon, glass, aramid, natural and hybrid fabrics whilst also offering a toll impregnation service.

The purpose of this role is to provide technical support and advice to the Technical Manager .

Person Specification

In this role, you will provide a professional level of technical support to ensure that the company’s products function effectively and meet customer’s requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Ownership of multiple customer-facing technical support projects, under the guidance of Technical Manager and Regional Sales Managers

• Direct liaison with customers in support of technology developments or processing problems, typically involving on-site visits, regular cross function coordination meetings and report writing.

• Communication with wider SHD and Cambium stakeholders, to ensure information and knowledge sharing

• Day-to-day supervision of the laminating area and equipment.

• Lamination and processing of tooling and components as required. Oven, autoclave and press moulding

• Working as required on specific Research and Development programmes as directed by the Technical Manager.

• Maintenance of records and data.

• Reporting of relevant information to Directors and Managers.

• Working in accordance with company Quality and Health & Safety procedures at all times

• To undertake and other duties from time to time as can be requested by the company.

Skills and Ability

• Experience in project management in composite manufacturing environment – Essential

• Extensive understanding and experience with prepreg materials – Essential

• Ability to laminate, fit and assemble composite mouldings – Essential

• Working knowledge of composites processing equipment (Autoclave, oven, press) – Essential

• Working confidently unattended from drawings and process documentation - Essential

• Ability to liaise with internal staff, suppliers and customers of all levels - Essential

• Impeccable attention to detail – Essential

• Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions – Essential

• Ability to work to deadlines and to manage own time keeping – Essential
