Key SHD materials contribute to Lotus Evija Hypercar technology
The stunning all-electric Lotus Evija Hypercar is set to be one of the most powerful cars ever to enter series production.
Fundamental to delivering the Evija’s outstanding performance is its exceptionally lightweight carbon fibre monocoque and the ultra-advanced all-electric powertrain. Both designed and engineered using SHD advanced composite materials.
SHD’s tried and trusted structural system MTC400-1 was Lotus engineers’ material of choice for the carbon fibre monocoque, and its final specification followed an extensive round of dynamic structural testing and design simulation work.
Similarly, the Evija’s ultra-advanced all-electric powertrain incorporates an extremely lightweight, and energy dense, electric power package. The composite materials utilised in the battery pack are SHD’s, employing combinations of prepregs based on MTC510 (industry leading epoxy) and PS200 (highly sustainable, biobased). This combination of materials has helped to produce very lightweight components that are also capable of delivering the onerous physical properties required of structurally safe battery enclosures.
