This project aimed to improve electrical conductivity in composite materials through addition of functionalized grapheneinto the resin system used for the production of prepreg materials. Graphene and nano-particulates had been shown to improve electrical conductivity, and applying functional groups onto the graphene surface significantly enhanced composite properties.

Improvement in electrical conductivity levels were achieved when compared to traditional carbon composites, increasing the material’s lighting strike resistance, without detrimental effects to the composite’s mechanical properties.

The project partners included Haydale Composite Solutions, Cobham TS, Airbus and BAE Systems.
