SHD introduces MTC700, a next generation toughened epoxy prepreg
SHD Composites is pleased to announce the release of MTC700, a next‑generation toughened epoxy prepreg resin system engineered to meet the rigorous performance standards of motorsport, aerospace, and other high‑performance sectors.
Developed through an intensive program of material characterisation, application trials, and close customer collaboration, MTC700 incorporates a novel epoxy chemistry optimised to deliver outstanding mechanical performance across a wide range of premium reinforcement types. The system combines high laminate toughness, elevated thermal capability, and exceptional consistency—making it a compelling solution for critical primary and secondary structures.
MTC700 offers versatile processing through a dual‑cure profile at 135°C or 180°C, allowing manufacturers to tailor production routes without compromising part performance. When fully post‑cured, the system achieves a DMA onset Tg exceeding 200°C, supporting demanding service environments common in next‑generation airframes, propulsion components, and high‑temperature automotive architectures.
“Our customers have been asking for a resin system that delivers top‑tier mechanical performance without sacrificing processing flexibility or SHD’s cost efficiency,” said Nigel Blatherwick, Group Commercial Director at SHD Composites. “Our team has delivered, and MTC700 is the direct result of those conversations. We tailored its chemistry, cure options, and performance profile specifically to meet the needs of modern motorsport and high‑performance manufacturers. And, given it is produced through SHD’s rapid‑production model, we can offer it with industry‑leading responsiveness and an exceptional price‑to‑performance position as we do with our entire portfolio. For now, this is an autoclave only system.”
Through static and dynamic testing, a, MTC700 has demonstrated:
Exceptional tensile, compressive, and shear performance
High fracture toughness and improved impact/damage resistance
Consistent consolidation and fibre wet‑out across complex geometries
These attributes deliver tangible structural performance benefits versus traditional toughened epoxy systems. A comprehensive mechanical database is available upon request to support engineering evaluation and qualification activities.
