Product and Process Engineer

With the recent exciting acquisition by Cambium Biomaterials, Inc. the Company is committed to rapidly accelerating product and footprint development and growth. This role direct supports the development plan.

Person Specification

In this role, you will act as on-site process development engineer. This will include the oversight and manufacturing engagement of development products as they emerge into production to ensure consistent running and repeatable product quality. The role will also involve project management of anticipated process development projects, which will be broad in scope and include machine development, facilities enhancements and process improvements.  

Key Responsibilities

  • You will be expected to develop a deep understanding of process inputs and processes aligned to customer specifications to drive improvements in cost, quality, service, and materials performance.

  • You will lead teams around the practical manufacturing aspects to improve products and integrate new products into process maturity and repeatability to meet customer needs and support growth

  • Line development engagement in tandem with SHD’s Group Engineering team.

  • Pre-preg process development. Managing the practical manufacturing aspects to improve products and integrate new products into process maturity and repeatability to meet customer needs and support growth.

  • Integral part of SHD site development strategy implementation, developing equipment specs through to integration and functional running to acceptable, repeatable product quality

  • Targeted Process improvements arising from customer input and quality targets

  • Management of Projects

  • Cross-Functional teamwork: Collaborate with R&D, Quality, Operations, and Sales to ensure smooth transitions from development through to product commercialisation.

  • Multiple site engagement is expected

  • Undertake any other duties from time to time as can be reasonably requested by the Company.

Skills and Ability

  • Degreed Engineer

  • Experience of composite materials manufacturing processes including the key elements of prepreg manufacture, films, adhesives and different forms of flat materials process development for aerospace and industrial customers.

  • Manufacturing expertise and passion for quality

  • Desirable to have Six Sigma and Lean experience, training/certification

  • Ability to understand key process parameters for cause / effect determination

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to identify and implement specific process improvements in a collaborative manner

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to engage staff in new projects

  • Attention to detail

  • Appreciation of product quality and consistency to customer expectations

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams

  • Ability to travel to Group locations as required

  • Computer skills, especially Microsoft products. Ability to engage with IT systems.

  • Ability to perform office functions such as fine finger manipulation for keyboarding

  • Ability to work in typical manufacturing environments such as  production floor.

  • Ability to follow safety procedures and wear PPE as required

  • Ability to read and write effectively in English

  • Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs

  • Ability to alternate sitting, standing and walking up to 8 hours per day
