SHD Launches MTC521FR — The Clear Choice for Flame-Retardant Cosmetic Components
SHD Composites today announces MTC521FR, a new clear‑resin, flame‑retardant epoxy prepreg engineered for visually critical carbon fibre components requiring certified fire performance. Combining outstanding cosmetic clarity with rigorous flame‑retardant capability, MTC521FR sets a new standard for high‑end exposed‑carbon applications in automotive, aircraft interiors and marine.
Building on SHD’s proven expertise in cosmetic-grade prepregs, the system has been developed by engineering an all-new resin formulation specifically tuned for visual clarity and flame performance, supported by extensive internal testing. It is a clear, fully transparent material that delivers consistent laminate quality and meets globally recognised fire-safety standards. The material achieves UL94 V1 classification and passes CS/FAR 25.853 12-second and 60-second vertical burn tests, confirming its suitability for safety-critical cosmetic interior structures.
“MTC521FR represents a significant advancement in flame‑retardant cosmetic prepregs,” said Dr. Alix Sauget, R&D Director at SHD Composites. “Our customers expect premium visual performance paired with dependable processing and safety compliance. MTC521FR delivers that combination with the consistency and reliability that define SHD materials.”
This novel system brings together clarity, fire performance, and processability, giving manufacturers a straightforward solution for programmes where visual quality and certified safety must work hand in hand. Its transparent nature and proven FR credentials make it a dependable choice across a wide range of visually demanding applications.
