Bruce & Walker is a small, family business, making hand built carbon fibre fishing rods. The company have been building fishing rods in the village of Upwood, Cambridgeshire, since 1974. Together with GBS (Great British Sportscars), the aim of the project was to support the manufacture of automotive body panel and structural components without the requirement of standard composite processing technology by the use of autoclave, oven and press curing.
The aim of the project is to develop lower cost, higher performance composite tooling for use in aerospace part manufacture, evaluated through multiple manufacturing cycles.
This project was run by one of our technical interns, with a focus on the development of Flax materials in partnership with Bcomp and their Amplitex range. Testing included mechanical testing and DMA testing
As an ongoing support activity for our customer base, this project aimed to achieve optimum conditions and investigate how materials perform by gaining performance data through various testing processes.
The 18-month project, beginning September 2018, will focus on the development of low cost, lightweight FST compliant materials with ‘hot-in, hot-out’ press moulding processing for aircraft interior parts.
